Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting
Volvo drivers love the remote control capabilities of their key fob. They can lock and unlock their vehicle as well as start the motor and even locate it using the smartphone app.
Place the key fob's face up on a clean surface. Locate the button that releases it, insert a coin between the cover and the fob and pull it up slowly.
Unlocking the Doors
Volvo's remote key fobs are able to unlock the doors, tailgate, and flap for filling up the fuel in your vehicle with a touch of one button. To push the manual lock/unlock button to unlock your key fob, place it with the Volvo logo facing up. Find the black button which is near the edge of the body of your key fob and gently press it to open a cover that conceals the manual key blade. This cover can be flipped counterclockwise by using a flathead or coin.
Starting the Engine
Modern Volvo key fobs offer an unbeatable level of convenience and functionality that is not available with traditional manual keys. But, just like any other battery-powered electronic device, a key fob can lose its charge or cease working after a certain period of time. If you've noticed that your key fob is less responsive when you press the lock or unlock buttons, that's a good sign that it's in need of a replacement battery.
If your vehicle is fitted with a dealer-installed Engine Remote Start accessory, you can also use the key fob to activate this feature. The vehicle will be able to cool or heat at the same temperature it was set to when it was parked. It can last for up to 15 mins.
Using a fingernail, carefully remove the cover on the back of the key fob. Under the cover on a diagonal close to the edge of the body, you'll find an unidentified button. Slide it down and to the right. The cover will come out and slide off, revealing the manual key blade inside! If you are still unable to locate the button, search the newly exposed manual key access to find whether there's a secret slot or lever.
Close the Windows
Volvo key fobs come with an option that hides behind them that allows users to instantly lower all windows. This is very useful when you're trying to squeeze into parking spaces that are tight or simply need fresh air while driving.
To unlock the windows do this, press and hold down the unlock button on your Volvo remote for four seconds. This will lower the windows as well as the sunroof if you have one. When you're done with your vehicle, you can close all the windows by pressing the lock key again for four seconds.
You can also set off the panic alarm inside your car by using the key fob. It will emit a loud noise that will draw attention and deter thieves. Opening the Tailgate

Switching off the Alarm
Modern key fobs provide an array of benefits over a traditional mechanical car key. They're not always perfect and batteries may fail. If you're in a hurry, or do not want to visit an establishment to get your key fob reset, you can get it to work at home.
Find a smooth surface and lay out your key fob, battery, and extra keys. Place the key fob with the Volvo logo facing up and then find a small black button to the left-hand side of the fob and slide it to the right. The cover should fall off and expose the key blade's mechanical structure underneath.
Press the key fob's unlock button two times quickly, and you should be able opening all of the doors and the tailgate. By pressing the lock button for two seconds, you can also close the windows and the sunroof if they are equipped. Reconnect the battery, and the alarm should cease. If it doesn't, then the owner's manual should have a way to reset the alarm.
